Working at a new school can be tough. School staff developers do not always have the time or resources to offer the support you need to be successful. Often, staff developers don't have a solid understanding of the new curriculum their school is undertaking. The school's staff developers leave it up to the classroom teachers to figure it out or uncover the strengths and weakness of a program. Many times they make unreasonable requests to write elaborate lesson plans and unit slide shows. Not knowing where to turn can be a stressful, and frustrating experience. Take a turn toward The Teacher's Nest where it is OK to ask for help!! No judgement, just encouragement!
The Teachers Nest offers monthly subscriptions for teachers who need more support or balance. Teachers who are teaching in a new grade or new school environment will benefit from professional assistance and support, reviewing lessons plans and preparing for teacher evaluations. Teachers who are a bit more established can benefit from a bi-monthly subscription where we will support and work together for parent teacher conferences, report card support, co-writing and directing school plays and even set design. Massive unit unboxing and curriculum understanding is a task that The Teachers Nest will work on together with the individual or group of educators. Quarterly assistance is available to discuss how to move forward with unit benchmarks, evaluations, ESL summative assessments, end of the year data collection

Hi! I am Sheila Compono. I have been teaching for more than half my life!! Before I was a successful NYC teacher for 13 years in a Title 1 school, i worked at a daycare center as an assistant while earning my college degree. I have my Master's Degree in Education and 30 credits above my Masters, in Education as well as an ESL certificate. When I first became I NYC teacher I was so excited and couldn't wait to start my professional path. I soon realized that my first year teaching was not going to be as smooth as I hoped. I signed up to teach 5th grade in the largest elementary schools in NYC. We had over 2000 students and over a 100 staff. We had 5 floors, an annex, and a mini building filled with students. I struggled in all areas of teaching but I was too proud to ask for help. I had some older co-workers that seemed impossible to work with. They had a close nit group and I was clearly the odd man out. Thankfully I had made friends with a few teachers on a different floor. Even though they were so understanding and compassionate, I was so scared to let my peers know how badly I was struggling. Finally, I allowed myself to ask for help. An amazing group of co-teachers rallied behind me and gave me the strength and courage to pull through my first year. Simply being open to recommendations and guidance from my trusted co-workers changed my entire experience. Once I was open up to "Help" my entire career took off. I had a model classroom and was on the planning committee. Throughout my 13 years of teaching my professional career and personal life blossomed into a beautiful life. The need for professional support never stopped and I was lucky that I had a strong support system around me. Unfortunately, not all work environments are as cohesive as the one I came from. I would often hear nightmare stories of teachers who were isolated and at their breaking point...even within my own school. Many times I would reach out to the struggling teachers and be the ear they needed or the friend they wished they had. After my 13 years of teaching in NYC I longed for more time with my children and decided to resign with hopes of opening a daycare center. I began gathering my information on planning my new adventure. I open an in home daycare on the first floor of my home. After 2 years of a successful in home daycare, I grew enough business understanding that I partnered up with my sister and mother. Together we opened a successful, lovely day care center with the capacity for 108 students ages 18months-12 years old.
I am now at the stage of my life where I have the time to help other teachers figure out their own path.
